Jungle Homestead:
There are few hardy enough to venture into the jungle. There are even fewer who hack their way through the forest and decide to set up a homestead.
This is the case here. Next to a river, a retired ranger and her family have set up a farm where they grow fruit, raise animals and occasionally send lumber down the river.
The reason they chose this spot was because of the ruins of an old tower built on a small hill nearby. The ranger felt that someday, they could use the remains of the structure for a home or for a place to store food.
Recently however, a fissure has opened up in the ruins. It goes deep into the hill and some of the farm’s animals have gone missing.
The ranger has some skills, but is fearful of fully investigating the fissure. Her experience has taught her that she may not return and her family will suffer for it. Would the party be willing to investigate in return for a fairly minute reward?
Encounter ideas:
1) Goblins! Goblins have burrowed up from caverns deep below into the original dungeon of the ruined keep. They have been raiding the surface, but are getting set for a full-scale assault on the farm.
2) A creeping mist escapes from the fissure at night. The missing animals have wandered too close and been poisoned before being cleaned up by jungle scavengers. The players must find a way to divert the poisonous gas.
3) Troll! A troll has followed an underground passage and when seismic activity opened the fissure to the top, it took advantage. Having feasted on a couple of horses – it now wonders about the taste of humanoid flesh.
